Another Marathon for John
in support of Asirus

NEWS UPDATE MORE>>

INTRODUCTION

Asirus is a Scottish charity founded in 2002 whose remit is the support of asthma
sufferers in the remote and rural areas of Scotland.

Our two main objectives are to support the emergency rapid response  transport system where its facilities are limited or inadequate in extreme rural areas, and to provide nebulisers for use by at-risk asthma patients, or those with acute respiratory diseases, in those areas.

WHAT is ASTHMA?

Asthma is a chronic lung disease and one of the most common medical conditions in Scotland. The condition can be life limiting, even life threatening, affecting not only those
who have asthma but also their families, friends and colleagues.

The symptoms of asthma are recurrent wheezing, breathlessness, tightness or pain in
the chest, and cough, and can be triggered by such things as house-dust mite, dust,
pollen or exercise.

There is no cure for the asthma patient for whom every breath is often a miracle in itself. Asthma is on the increase, especially amongst children.

There are 400,000 asthma sufferers in Scotland; those in rural areas are more at risk
and it is those whom Asirus seeks to help.
