HELP ASIRUS

"For those living alone, a severe asthma attack can be a frightening experience. Breathlessness causes panic, and sometimes patients are unable to speak. In isolated areas this situation is not uncommon, sometimes with tragic results.

Please help Asirus to achieve its objectives in helping those considered to be at risk in the remote and rural areas of Scotland, and simplifying the work of the emergency services. You could save your own life, or that of a friend”.

Angus Farquharson Esq OBE. Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire

ANOTHER MARATHON FOR JOHN

Committee Member John Bruce, who raised just over £10,000 for us by competing in the 2005 New York Marathon, has run for us again. This time it was the London Marathon on 13th April this year and at least 50% of what John raised will be donated to Asirus, specifically to establish a Nebuliser bank for use by patients in rural Scotland who cannot afford these machines. Nebulisers are electronic machines which deliver the drugs deep into the patient’s lungs when normal inhalers can't do the job.

.“I’ve chosen to support Asirus because I’m asthmatic myself and I recognise the invaluable work they carry out in the community. Asirus is local to Scotland and has a direct impact on people’s lives”.

Thanks again to John for his hard work and hope that he becomes an example to get others involved in fundraising activities in support of this worthy cause.

FIRST MARATHON FOR SCHOOL TEACHER

Eddie Quinn is from Glasgow, he's 36 years old and currently a school teacher.

Eddie says.. "I started running seriously 2 years ago and Edinburgh will be my first marathon. I attend my G.P. for my asthma health check regularly and have been informed that my peak flow has increased since I started running. So running has helped to improve my asthma condition and I hope that my running can help other asthma sufferers through your charity".

If you would like to sponsor Eddie’s Edinburgh Marathon run, please either use the link to Just Giving on our “Donate / raise money” page or you can go directly to Eddie's fundraising page at http://www.justgiving.com/eddiequinn

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Be a volunteer! We need volunteers to help with our fundraising events and to promote Asirus throughout Scotland.
  • Make a donation! A standing order of £2 a month, especially under the Gift Aid scheme, is of great help to us. (For example, a Gift Aid donation of £10 from a basic rate taxpayer would currently give Asirus another £2.82 in reclaimed tax). Talk to us today, or call our office for more information. Thank you! • Can you offer creative ideas for fundraising? involve your friends? collect quality items for car boot and jumble sales? hold a coffee morning? organise a sponsored event? sell raffle tickets? join us on our stands at shows and outdoor events in summer? run the London Marathon? or the Great North Run? add to this list?
  • Link to us, place a link on your web site to inform your visitors about our work.

All the funds we raise in Scotland benefit Scottish asthma (and other at-risk) patients and we constantly seek ways in which we may widen our effectiveness, both by fundraising and identifying the further needs of the asthma patient in rural and remote areas.

Asirus relies entirely on the generosity of the public’s response to our fundraising initiatives, and grants and donations from Trusts, Funds, Foundations and businesses. We also currently receive a small, but welcome, amount of funding from the Scottish Executive (now the Scottish Government).

Working together, we really can make a difference.
