Make sure your vases are kept very clean. Avoid Metal Vases as they can be hard to keep
clean and can neutralize the effects of the flower food.

Always fill vase with fresh lukewarm water and dissolved cut flower food.

Strip flowers of all the leaves that will be below the water line.

With sharp knife or scissors make a slanted cut at least 6cm from the bottom of all stems.

Avoid direct sunlight (as it encourages bacteria to breed), heat or draughts
(which chills the flowers), as all can shorten the vase life of the flowers.

Keep cut flowers away from ripening fruit, as it releases ethylene gas
which prematurely ages flowers.

Remove faded or dead flowers from vase or arrangement.

Top up water in vase regularly. Add cut flower food in proportion. If flower food is not
being used make sure to change water and cut stem ends every couple of days.

Always buy flowers from reputable outlet.

Never smash or pierce the stems.

Never mix Daffodils or Narcissi with other flowers, as when their stems are cut they emit
latex, (daffodil slime), which is toxic to other flowers. Special flower food is available
especially for Daffodils so they can be mixed with other cut flowers.
